2014 Para National Team Selection 

On January 24, 2014, USATT will name 8 members to the US Para National Team in recognized classes of the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) Para Division for Singles competition.  There is no gender-specific maximum-minimum.

To qualify for selection to, and maintain a position on, the 2014 Para National Team an athlete must:

  • Have a current classification card issued by ITTF
  • Have participated in at least two (2) ITTF Para Events to demonstrate recent activity in 2013
  • Be a US Citizen & a current member in good standing of USA Table Tennis
  • Sign and adhere to the USATT/USOC Code of Conduct agreement
  • Join the USADA out-of-competition testing pool
  • Participate in all 2014 USATT fully funded Para National Team program activities such as camps, tournaments and fundraisers. Absences for family or medical excuses must be verified
  • Send quarterly log on practice to Para NT Coaches
  • Send practice plans for major events to Para NT Coaches
  • By being on the Para National Team you are committing to do your daily/weekly work in practice to improve your game 

Each Para Class may qualify no more than 2 members per class based on the following criteria, which are listed in order. 

1st criteria (Elite) for being named to 2014 US Para National Team:

 - Qualifiers for the 2014 ITTF PTT World Championships based on result and factor points

 2nd criteria for being named to 2014 US Para National Team (priority in order as numbered below):

1) Event Singles Winner of the 2013 Para Pan American Championship
2) Event Singles Winner of one ITTF PTT class 40 point tournament (in 2013)
3) Event Singles Winner of two ITTF PTT class 20 point tournaments (in 2013)
4) Event Singles Runner-Up of the 2013 Para Pan American Championships 
5) Event Singles Runner-Up of one ITTF PTT class 40 point tournament (in 2013)
6) Event Singles Runner-Up of one ITTF PTT class 20 point tournament (in 2013) 

3rd Criteria for being named to 2014 US Para National Team – Paralympic Competitive Analysis percentage of 70% or higher:

- Based on the number of athletes that have qualified from criteria 1 and 2, the remaining team members will qualify on a competitive level equation within each of their classes.

To determine the level of Paralympic competitiveness, the player should divide their current Para ITTF rating points (January 1, 2014) by that of the #1 rated player in their class to get a percentage.  The athletes with the highest percentage will be placed on the team in their rank order.

4th Criteria for being named to 2014 US Para National Team – Para World Ranking Individual Class Percentage

- Based on the number of athletes that have qualified from criteria 1, 2 and 3, the remaining team members will qualify on a percentage number on the ITTF Para World Ranking. 

To determine Para World Ranking percentage within the class, the player should divide their current Para ITTF World Ranking (January 1, 2014) by # of players in the same class to get a percentage.  The athletes with the lowest percentage will be placed on the team in their rank order.

Para National Team Benefits: 

  1. Funding support to mandatory USATT training camps

  3. Team Uniform (tracksuit, shirts and shorts)
  4. Free entry to 2014 U.S. Open and National Championship Para events (Please Note: athletes qualified for the World Championship will have different competition program and funding than other members on the 2014 Para National Team) 

Selection for the 2015 US Para National Team will be based on results and participation from 2014. Specific selection criteria for the 2015 US Para National Team will be announced by February 20, 2014.
